Why your Samsung ringtone starts quiet and gets louder
If the first ring on your Galaxy is quiet and the next rings are louder, the phone may be doing this by design. Samsung describes a gradual start to reduce sudden loud sound near the ear. Try a built-in tone on a real incoming call to check whether the pattern comes from the phone or from your recording.

Compare two calls at the same volume
- Open Settings → Sounds and vibration. Choose Sound mode, then open Volume and set Ringtone to a comfortable level. Note your current tone so you can put it back.
- Open Ringtone and choose a built-in sound with a clear opening. If your Galaxy has separate tones for two SIMs, choose the line that will receive the test call.
- Pause any media, disconnect headphones and place the phone on a table. Have someone call your number and let it ring several times. Repeat with your usual ringtone, using the same caller and line. If that contact has a personal ringtone, use a caller who follows your default.
If both tones start softly and reach the volume you selected, that fits the behavior Samsung describes. If only your custom tone starts quietly, listen to its opening in the app where you chose it. Silence or a fade in the recording can sound similar. Choose a version with a clearer first beat or trim the opening of your own clip.
Can you turn off the gradual start?
Samsung documents the rising sound, but its published guidance doesn't give one switch that disables it across Galaxy models. The Ringtone volume slider sets the call alert level. Turning it all the way up just to hear the first ring can make the later rings uncomfortably loud. A gradual-volume option inside the Clock app applies to that alarm.
If you need a model-specific answer, note the model and One UI version under Settings → About phone and Software information. Tell Samsung Support whether it happened with a built-in ringtone on an ordinary phone call. That gives them a specific behavior to check.
If the ringtone stays quiet for the whole call
Return to the Ringtone slider and check the phone’s sound mode. The Media slider changes playback volume. If the problem occurs only in an internet calling app, check its call alerts separately. See our missing or quiet ringtone checks or our Samsung WhatsApp call guide for those cases.
To try a different sound, open Ringy, choose a ringtone with a distinct opening, and follow the Samsung setup steps. Repeat the call comparison before deciding whether the new sound works better for you.
